Welcome to the 2019 DKG International Conference in Reykjavik, Iceland!
Many exciting sessions and workshops are planned for you at this conference. Most are tied to the conference theme, PROFESSIONAL RESEARCH & PRACTICES! We have listened to your ideas and thoughts on how best to serve your needs at conferences. The themes for all five conferences this year reflect input from members attending each of the regional conferences in 2017. The results are five thematic conferences representing what members wanted to see evolve to meet their needs.
During the conference on PROFESSIONAL RESEARCH & PRACTICES you will learn much as speakers from the leading educational institutions in Iceland share their research on such topics as professional development, preparing students for the future, and drama education, theory, and pedagogy, just to name a few sessions. Newly elected leaders from throughout the Society will train together for the first time, allowing for a unique collaboration and sharing of ideas as they tackle the real issues facing DKG: membership, chapter dissolution/expansion, revitalization of state organizations, and the ever-present simplification or processes and procedures. Interlaced within the program will be Society sessions providing updates and changes being implemented as part of the 2018 adopted amendments and new directions being taken by international committees. Learn what’s new for Leadership Management in 2020. Consider completing an application for a scholarship or an elected international position all coming up in late 2019 and 2020. Start thinking about the proposed amendments you will put forth for 2020. Find out what’s going on in other international committees. Attend the Forum associated with this conference to learn more about advocating for education in Europe. And, meet Society members from across the globe as women from outside this region elect to visit Reykjavik this summer!
Enjoy the experience and grow as a DKG member while soaking up the atmosphere and culture of Iceland. Many people have worked hard to provide a successful conference for you, including headquarters staff, international committees, speakers and the regional director in charge of this conference, Ingibjörg Jónasdóttir. My personal thanks to all involved and to you for coming to Reykjavik, Iceland in 2019! I’ll be looking for you during my time there, too.

International President 2018-2020

Greetings from the Europe Regional Director
We welcome you to the 2019 International Conference in Iceland. I am happy to have the honor to be able to invite you to my dear home country with all that it has to offer.
Our task at this conference is to create a program with the title Professional Research and Practices. We believe we have prepared a wonderful event, full of professional insight, fun, networking, inspiration and culture.
The conferences in Europe have in the past been focused on educational, professional matters and ‘hot’ topics in the field. This year we focus on how we tackle the future, the changes and how we prepare ourselves for the future.
Celebrating now the 20th time a conference is held in Europe, we remember all our pioneers who fought for this goal, to create a region for the European countries, how they had a vision of us being stronger together. We owe them a lot! We are a very diverse region but have at the same time a lot in common. At a conference like this we strengthen our bonds and our network. Members from countries, states and regions meet and exchange knowledge which is an important aspect of the international society.
We are educators with a vision, we want to use our experience and knowledge to inspire others around the world. We share the same goals and enthusiasm towards education and are ready to encourage and strengthen each other both personally and professionally. We are stronger together and we want to use our network to make an impact on education around the world and draw attention to our accomplishments. We Want To Achieve Excellence In Education.

Greetings from the Steering Committee
It is my honor and pleasure to welcome you to the DKG International Conference in Reykjavik, Iceland. Our theme is Professional Research and Practices and we will focus on how it can enhance the learning society with an emphasize on the 6 C´s. The 6 C´s being; Character education, Citizenship, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, Critical thinking.
DKG in Iceland was established in November 1975 when Marie Pierce from the International Expansion Committee established the Alpha chapter. The founders of the Alpha Chapter were 18 Icelandic women educators, two of whom are 44 years later very active. When the Europe Regional Conference was held in Iceland 2003 members of DKG in Iceland were 204 in eight chapters. Now the chapters are 13 and our members are approximately 332 or 63% increase in membership over 16 years.
The planning of the conference has been ongoing for two years. It started slowly but the speed increased as the conference dates approached. Very many DKG members in Iceland have taken part in the planning process. There have been several preparation committees working on different themes. A Program committee of five women with Guðný Helgadóttir as a chair, an Entertainment Committee of seven women with Ingibjörg Einarsdóttir as a chair, a Registration Committee of three women with Eygló Björnsdóttir as a chair, a Publicity Committee of four women with Ingileif Ástvaldsdóttir as a chair, a Finance Committee of three women with Jensína Valdimarsdóttir as a chair and finally a Steering Committee of five women, which I have chaired. At the conference even more Icelandic DKG women will be involved as hosts both at the conference and at the Grand Dinner guiding guests, decorating and helping in many ways. I want to thank all these DKG members for all their professional and practical contribution to the conference.
We in the Steering Committee hope that you will enjoy both the content of the conference and the social program with DKG members from all over the world and we thank you for sharing this time with us here in Reykjavík, Iceland.
